CUMMING, Ga. — Children and adults alike who enjoyed the Cumming Christmas Parade for the last nine years will have to find a new holiday tradition this season.

The Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce confirmed the cancellation of the annual parade, typically held the first Saturday in December and routed along Market Place Boulevard.

Nearly a decade ago, a group of merchants along Market Place Boulevard and community leaders approached the chamber about getting a community Christmas parade reorganized, said James McCoy, CFCC president.

“The discussion and plan at the time was that the chamber would get the parade started and on firm footing — then transition it to another civic organization,” McCoy said. “It was never conceived as a long-term initiative of the chamber.”

Over the years, the chamber approached several organizations about taking on the parade – all declined, he said. This past year, the chamber approached two different organizations and both declined.

Little Red has been Santa's Sleigh for a number of years now. We will miss participating in what was a very fun event. Last year it was raining on the way, it stopped for the parade, and started up after the parade was over. Santa just tapped his nose! :-)
