Event Description

14th Annual GA Tech Auto Show – Atlanta, GA – April 1, 2017

April 1 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The 14th Annual Georgia Tech Auto Show will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 on the Georgia Tech campus. Motor vehicles of all types owned by students, former students, faculty, staff, alumni, fans, and corporate sponsors of Georgia Tech will be on display. Classic antique cars, late model modified cars, 4×4 off road trucks, hot rods, cars modified with alternative power delivery (electric, fuel cell), daily-driven transportation, kit cars, race cars, concept cars, prototype cars, and all kinds of motorcycles are all encouraged to participate. Automobiles ranging from extremely rare classics in show condition to unfinished student-budget projects are welcome and appreciated. If the owner takes pride in the vehicle, it has a place in this show.

The show is open and free to the public for viewing the cars on display.  Children are especially welcome, but please make sure that they are well supervised so that they do not touch any vehicle without the owner’s permission.

Those interested in showing a car can enter via the registration link on the home page of this web site. A tax deductible donation sent to the Georgia Tech Foundation is suggested along with the registration.  This donation is NOT REQUIRED for full participation.  Donations are suggested at $15 for student entries, $35 for faculty and staff, and $75 for alumni. (Motorcycles: $7/$17/$37) Additional vehicles entered by one participant will be the same donation suggestion as a motorcycle. If you do not choose to make a donation to the foundation through this event, we assume that you may be supporting the foundation through other avenues. Funds raised above the operating expense of the show will be deposited into the Georgia Tech Foundation account for the support and renovation of the Student Competition Center. This building supports the activities of the GT Motorsports, GT OffRoad, RoboJackets, WreckRacing, and other student design teams representing Georgia Tech in international competitions.

Car placement will begin “rain or shine” at 10:00AM in the Instructional Center parking lot on the Georgia Tech campus located between the Instructional Center, Student Center Parking Deck (Clydeck), and the Student Athletic Center (SAC). A printable map is linked from the home page of this web site. Free spectator parking will be available in a parking deck in the same area. Judging will begin at 11:00 AM and conclude at 1:00 PM. Award winners will be notified during the show if possible or via e-mail after the show (make sure your e-mail address is valid).

Food vendors will be present but non-alcoholic tailgating will also be allowed and encouraged.

Please join us for this annual celebration of technology and design!

Judge Spotlight: Honoring the People Behind the Awards, by Mike Thies

I believe my Blog provides an excellent platform to recognize the dedicated, long-term judges who support the car hobby and events throughout the country. Some have contributed decades of service while judging several major events every year. Their knowledge, fairness and willingness to share what they have learned help preserve the integrity of concours judging. I invite…

A Bite of the Market -Collector Car Trends for the Next Six Months by Mike Thies

As I am appraising vehicles, many folks ask me what the future holds. I tell here what I tell them. So often I am too close to the "real metal" to have much of a crystal ball and it's not my strength, anyway. However, when I stand back and do the research, sometimes a cloudy picture does come through. It seems to me that the last…
